Anecdote Recaps and Prepping for "Skog’s Escape"
Winter Recap (part 1) and illustrating a cover for my new one-shot story!
Hey-O!
I’m not going to lie, getting back into a rhythm of making and posting these has been challenging. (I’ve also been distracted with Figuary). However, I have a couple recap Fireground Anecdotes coming to catch you up on my winter break. I have one page today, but next week will be a double.
It was originally my intention to release a full debut for Skog’s Escape this week, but I decided to make a cover and spend a little more time promoting it so I can start strong next post.
In the meantime, here is a detailed look at the cover illustration and my process and a glimpse of what you get with an upgraded subscription:
I started with a warmup sketch and found a concept I liked.
I work best when I keep my pencils loose, or else I run the risk of having the finished product stiff and less energetic.
I do highlights with a water brush pen filled with diluted, cheap, acrylic white paint.
Shadows are done with empty brush pens refilled with water.
I still try to keep my inks loose and energized. My main focus now, is keeping my line weights varied and dramatic.
I finish with white gelly roll pens (and a little toothbrush spatter for stars) focusing on lighting, clarity and readability.
I’m excited to share this little project with you guys! You may remember I started this for 24-hour-comic day, so it was designed to be a loose and quick sketch comic - except I’m not exactly capable of anything “quick.” Although I will say that these anecdote comics have certainly helped!
Grab some more coffee, and I’ll catch you next time!
